The 28th EAJS will be held in 2022, organized by the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), affiliated with ShanghaiTech University. The theme of the symposium this year is Fighting Diseases: Challenges and Opportunities for Life Sciences.
The symposium will include oral presentations by professors, young scientists and students, as well as poster sessions. Like previous EAJS, the mission of the 28th EAJS this year is to facilitate scientific communication within the east asia area and, most importantly, to promote the early career of young scientists.
The East Asia Joint Symposium (EAJS) started in 1994 as a bi-institutional symposium between the Institute of Medical Science of the University Tokyo (IMSUT) and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics (IMBG) of Seoul National University. Drs. Ken-ichi Arai of IMSUT and Jeongbin Yim of IMBG, who believed in the paramount value of openness and international cooperation in science, played pivotal roles in the initiation of the symposium.
Later on, the annual event was expanded and began inviting leading institutes in the region. In 2000 (7th symposium), the Institute for Virus Research (IVR) of Kyoto University and the Samsung Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI) of Sungkyunkwan University joined the symposium, followed by the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB) in 2001, and the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IBMB) of National Taiwan University in 2002, and then the full name of the joint symposium was renamed as "The East Asia Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research". In 2019, The Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), affiliated with ShanghaiTech University, joined EAJS.
